In a significant breakthrough in the fight against crime, the Enugu State Police Command has apprehended three individuals suspected of involvement in armed robbery incidents across the Enugu metropolis and the Oji-River axis of the state.

The arrests were made following diligent investigative efforts by police personnel, resulting in the recovery of firearms and other incriminating items from the suspects.

According to a statement issued by the Command's spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the first arrest occurred on May 7, around 1:30 pm, when detectives from the Awkunanaw Police Division apprehended a 31-year-old suspect whose identity was withheld for legal reasons. His accomplices managed to evade capture during the operation. The police recovered a locally fabricated Beretta-like pistol from the suspect.

The arrest was prompted by a report from a tricyclist who had been robbed by a gang of armed assailants while transporting them to Garriki in Awkunanaw. The victim positively identified the apprehended suspect as one of the perpetrators of the robbery.

In a separate operation conducted by operatives from the Oji-River Police Division, in collaboration with members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, two suspects were apprehended on May 3, around 5:20 am. The suspects, residents of Trans-Ekulu in Enugu, were allegedly armed with toy pistols when they robbed a victim of cash, a phone, and other possessions.

During the arrest, the police seized two imitation revolver pistols, a stolen Honda car, a syringe containing a liquid substance suspected to be acid, and various other items from the suspects. The individuals had reportedly used the toy guns to carry out the robbery, leading to a chase that culminated in their apprehension after their vehicle veered off the road into the bush.

DSP Ndukwe confirmed that the suspects would be prosecuted upon the completion of investigations into the cases, underscoring the commitment of the Enugu State Police Command to ensuring justice and maintaining law and order within the state.
