In a sweeping decision impacting the Nigerian education landscape, President Tinubu has given the green light to 555 individuals, including Attahiru Jega, to assume roles as chairmen and members of governing councils in tertiary institutions across the country.

Attahiru Jega, a distinguished Nigerian academic renowned for his tenure as the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, joins the ranks of appointees poised to shape the future of higher education in Nigeria.

Jega's appointment adds another chapter to his illustrious career, which notably includes his pivotal role as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). His tenure at INEC, beginning with his nomination by then-President Goodluck Jonathan in June 2010, marked a period of significant reform and transition in Nigeria's electoral processes.

During his tenure, Jega steered the electoral commission through several landmark elections, earning acclaim for his commitment to transparency and integrity in the electoral process. His retirement in June 2015, in accordance with a directive from President Muhammadu Buhari, marked the end of an era characterized by his steadfast leadership and unwavering dedication to democratic ideals.

With Jega's wealth of experience and expertise, his appointment to lead governing councils of tertiary institutions underscores President Tinubu's commitment to fostering excellence and innovation within Nigeria's educational sector.

As Jega and his fellow appointees assume their new roles, the nation awaits the transformative impact of their leadership on the future trajectory of higher education in Nigeria.
