Gold is back. With global investments delivering little returns, the eyes of many investors have turned to the old favourite. But the new gold rush has come with a big rise in scams and confidence tricks. They now represent a major threat for companies and individuals and many of them take place in Africa.

Ghana is the second-largest producer of gold on the continent and is now home to a large network of gold fraudsters. Investors have lost millions at their hands. Investors becoming poorer whilst Fraudsters becoming richer!

Africa Investigates goes undercover to lift the lid on this illusory pot of gold.

In this episode (Fool's Gold): We learnt how gold fraudsters have been operating in Ghana, damaging the development  and reputation of Ghana.

A Ghanaian journalist Anas Aremeya Anas who have spent his years protecting his country by infiltrating and fighting crime and corruption, explains his resolve to name, shame and jail those undermining the aspirations of his country by duping foreign investors. He claimed that his anonymity to be his power.

He furthered his explanation by saying that these fraudsters have become a major threat to companies and individual who want to invest in his country most valuable commodity Gold.

In his interview with a business man (Todd Siegmeister) from U.S.A who have been scammed of over $1,500,000 (U.S dollars). Todd's said "I tested the first shipment and it was good. In the next shipment I found out that it was switched to a fake gold and not just scammed me they threaten to kill me. They have taken millions/billions of money from people and people worked their whole life to get it and watch it being taken."

Anas Aremeya Anas said "in his visitation to the police criminal investigation department, he realized that Todd Siegmeister from U.S.A wasn't the first that there has been many report of the same situation from most known developed countries. And this forces him to take it has a responsibility to name, shame and jail those undermining the aspirations of his country by duping foreign investors. With the help of his team and they police men he was able to fulfil his wish.

Watch how they were captured and exposed:

!

Fraudsters have been dominating Nigeria for quite some time and they come in series 419, yahoo-yahoo but Nigerians have never taken it as something they have to worry about. In my opinion, I will say Nigerians cares less for their reputation.
