The Kashimbila dam is scheduled to be commissioned in April 2014 and Ishaku gave the assurance yesterday when the governor of Taraba State, Mr. Danbaba Suntai, paid him a courtesy visit, in his office, in Abuja. He said the N60.63 billion project would not be abandoned, noting that government was aware that the economic potentials of the 40mw capacity hydro-dam.
“The Federal Government is committed to the improvement of the lives of the citizens through the provision of regular supply of electricity to all Nigerians for both domestic and commercial purposes,” Ishaku said.
While imploring the governor to sensitise his subjects on the reforms in the sector which, according to him, are targeted at the good of the citizens, Ishaku explained that the current electricity tariff increase was to encourage investors in the power sector and to make regular electricity supply sustainable for economic growth.
He added that the adjusted rate of payment for the commercial users is minimal when compared to the amount spent on self alternative power currently.
Earlier, the Governor commended the federal government for its efforts in making the rural areas benefit from the dividends of democracy with the construction of projects such as the Kashimbila dam.
