Does Your Religion Reveal Common Sense To Be Uncommon?

Few days ago, I presented a topic that said »»“Papa n Son Saga, Common Sense Is Not Common,”«« however; how does your religion reveal common sense to be like, common or uncommon?

 The very words ‘Common Sense’, by definition, suggests that it is something that is common, general and easily acquired by all, but a close look at real-life issues reveal to us that, Common sense is not common but uncommon!

When I was growing up, I assumed that everyone has “common sense” as the name implies; but as I began to observe the way people think, behave and handle issues of life, I realize that ‘common sense’ is indeed, not common because not everybody operates in it.

Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do! And with your wisdom, develop common sense and good judgment – Prov. 4:7 (LB)

If “common sense” was common to all, then;
- Many people will not think the way they think.
- Many people will not speak the way they speak.
- Many people will not dress the way they dress.
- Many people will not act the way they act.
- Many people will not flow the way they flow.
- Many people will not be in the relationship they are in.
- Many people will not be in the business they are in.

During Job’s tribulation, the Bible records that four of his friends came to him, and they all spoke to him one after the other. However, a closer look at the comments of Elihu, the fourth and the youngest, will validate the fact that common sense is not common.

Then Elihu (Son of Barachel, the Buzite, of the clan of Ram) became angry because Job refused to admit he had sinned and to acknowledge that God had a just cause for punishing him. But he was also angry with Job’s three friends because they had been unable to answer Job’s arguments and yet had condemned him. Elihu had waited until now to speak because the others were older than he.
 But when he saw that they had no further reply, he spoke out angrily, and said “I am young and you are old, so I held back and did not dare tell you what I think, for those who are older are said to be wiser; but it is not mere age that makes men wise, rather, it is the spirit in a man, the breath of the Almighty which makes him intelligent. So listen to me a while and let me express my opinion.
– Job 32:2-10 (LB)

 Elihu undoubtedly realized a vital fact by listening to the elders talk. One would have expected that the old age and grey hair will be synonymous with wisdom, but the existence of old fools nullifies that expectation. I guess that’s why it is said that ‘a fool at forty is a fool forever.’  One’s life can nullify this evil philosophy and more, if one begins to operate in “uncommon sense”.

Happy Sunday!
