A suspected kidnapping kingpin, Kolawale Alani, has confessed that he saw himself through the Gateway Polytechnic, Ogun State, from the proceeds of the various crimes he perpetrated. The 26-year-old suspect, a graduate of Business Administration, was one of three suspects who were arrested by the police after they kidnapped a 62-year-old business woman, Kudirat Adeboye, in the Ajah area of the state.
Alani told the police that , said but for abduction, he would not have been able to graduate from the polytechnic.
Hear him:
"Before I graduated, I was working as a casual worker with the former Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN). My financial situation became unbearable to my friend, the late Niyi. He promised he would assist me to get a job. He told me the type of business and I agreed to join. I badly needed the money."
Alani whose job was to keep watch over the victims they kidnapped, explained that his family members did not know what he did for a living or how he got his money. Luckily for the 62-year-old victim, she was rescued in her abductors' den at Akodo area of the state after she was kidnapped at Akodo bus stop, on Eleko Epe Expressway on April 16. Other suspects arrested alongside the graduate suspect are Ifeanyi Chukwuleta, 25, and Rasheed Adetunji, 28. The state police said that after the disappearance of the victim, her family members raised a search party and also alerted the Akodo Police Station.
Niyi Omosola who was shot dead after he went to pick up the ransom of N3 million around Epe Expressway some weeks ago.
The kidnappers had directed the victim’s son to bring the ransom to the road where one of them would meet him from the bush. Unknown to them, the police had trailed the man to the drop zone and moments after the kidnapper came out of the bush to collect the ransom, hidden policemen surfaced and shot him to death after he opened fire on the security operatives.
