A 56-year-old man identified simply as Ekpenyong, narrowly escaped death in the hands of his two sons who were bent on lynching him for marrying another wife after the demise of their mother in 2008, reports Daily Trust.
The incident happened at the family's residence in Phase 2, Site 2, Kubwa, Abuja, on Sunday, November 8, when the two young men, Nsikak and John Ekpenyong, descended on their father because he did not seek their consent before going ahead to marry another woman.
It was gathered that before then, the man had suffered a series of humiliations and assaults from his children who were not happy that he got married to a girl who is in their age range. A close family friend narrated the incident:
“The insults became unbearable and the new wife who gave birth to a two-year-old baby for their father was forced to run away from the house with the baby,” a source said. The friend also added that Ekpenyong had, on several occasions, lost some huge sums of money and other valuable items to the sons as they took advantage of his absence to ransack his room and on the fateful day, the older son, a 22-year-old undergraduate, went into the father’s room as usual, with the same intention without knowing that his father was inside.
But as his father accosted the son, the other brother joined and they beat him up, almost snuffing life out of him. The man however raised an alarm which attracted neighbours when the beating was getting out of hand, who in turn alerted the police, leading to the arrest of the duo. All of una just dey abuse dis guys... Though wat they did is wrong but no one would be happy with wat their father did... Make the Police just suffer them small then realise them with warning of not trying to do anything funny with their father again.
