A man identified as Keji Osunjirin, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has been arrested after he set his wife alight by  pouring petrol he brought home in a jerry can on her because she attends a family party he warned not to attend.

His wife died in the hospital from severe burns.

According to their neigbours who spoke to Premium times, the husband arrived home late at night with a container of petrol, hours after they had a quarrel.  He attacked his wife after she refused his instructions not to attend a family party.

The man reportedly rushed his dying wife to the hospital after realizing the havoc he caused, they said.

However, according to the man, he mistakenly threw the petrol can on his wife after it caught fire in his own hands saying the petrol was meant for his generator
