Four persons were yesterday killed by unknown persons in the resurgence of the crisis in Jos, Plateau State, eye-witnesses have said.
THISDAY checks revealed that residents of Dutse-Uku area of Jos, were alarmed when they woke up in the morning to meet a corpse tied and stuffed into a sack. The residents, according to investigation, immediately began to flee the area, fearing that the incident may degenerate into another crisis.

Confirming the incident, Military Special Task Force (STF) in a press statement signed by Brigadier-General Donald Oji, said “the discovery of the corpse infuriated the locals in the area who now formed a mob and took to the street, barricading roads in the general area. And some passers-by were stabbed in the process. They were evacuated to the hospital where three of them later died”.
The statement further said it took the intervention of the STF whose men fired warning shots before the mob was dispersed. Four people were arrested in connection with the incident while troops with armoured tanks have been deployed to the area.
The fears of the residents of Jos may not be unfounded since it was in the same Dutse-Uku that the January 17 crisis started in which over 500 lives were eventually lost. A man whose house was burnt during the 2008 crisis had returned to re-build it when the labourers he employed engaged in a fracas with the residents of the area, and it spread to other parts of the city.

This time, THISDAY gathered, one Mallam Nuhu Hamza had reported that he had not seen his son, Alkamata Nuhu Hassan since Friday. But at about 7.30 am yesterday, the corpse of the boy was found tied and stuffed into a sack by unknown persons.
The STF said a fifty body was found in Kpamru area of Miango, Jos. The corpse, according to the military, was that of a 20-year-old man, identified as Mr. Weze Nhiwe, who was last seen alive on Thursday, April 22  in t company with two persons who are now in the Police net.

The development came as Acting President Goodluck Jonathan, again threatened that  full weight of the law would descend on the perpetrators of the killings in Jos and  in other parts of the country.
Since the January resurgence of crisis on the Plateau, killings have continued silently, with the latest being that of yesterday. The military, while appealing for calm, assured that they are on top of the situation. They said “the situation is calm now in the areas, as efforts are on to unravel the circumstances of the deaths”

Meanwhile, speaking at the 23rd convocation ceremony of the University of Jos, Acting President Jonathan warned that the federal government would henceforth not fold its arms and watch hapless citizens suffer senseless killings as witnessed in the recent violence in some parts of the country.
