President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has appointed Bianca, the wife of the ailing Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu, into his government. Mrs. Ojukwu’s appointment as Senior Special Assistant, Diaspora Affairs, is one of four positions announced today in a press statement signed by Ima Niboro, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity. The other appointments are: Hon. Kingsley K. Kuku as Special Adviser, Niger Delta Affairs; Amb. (Dr.) Zakari Ibrahim as Coordinator, Anti Terrorism; and Mr. Oyewole Olugbenga Leke , Senior Special Assistant, Maritime Services. The appointments, which take immediate effect, come on the heels of some concern in the country that Mr. Jonathan runs a lavish, open-ended government. Only a few days ago, the Presidential Advisory Committee headed by General Theophilus Danjuma said Jonathan ’s government was too big. The appointment of Mrs. Ojukwu at a time her husband is lying in a hospital bed in London is aimed at garnering political capital for Mr. Jonathan with the Igbos, among whom Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu is widely respected.
