THE death toll from last week’s fire incident in Port Harcourt, Rivers State which claimed the lives of the two children of a police sergeant, Mr. Maxwell Udoh, has risen.

Udoh’s wife, his brother-in-law and the last of their children were the latest casualties of the fire, which occurred at No. 6, Bernard Carr Street in the state capital. It was said to have been caused by adulterated kerosene.

The spokesperson of the state police command, Dr. Rita Inoma-Abbey, who confirmed the development to our correspondent on Monday, said the policeman was still on admission at a hospital as a result of serious injuries sustained in the fire.

Inoma-Abbey added that Udoh was responding to treatment at the Police Clinic in Port Harcourt. Udoh was attached to the Rivers State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit and Special Intelligence Bureau before the incident.
