The town of Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State was plunged into sorrow on Saturday following a devastating accident that resulted in the loss of two siblings' lives.
The identities of the siblings, who fell victim to the fatal incident, are yet to be officially confirmed at the time of reporting. The tragedy unfolded when a truck transporting sand collided with the motorcycle they were riding at the Idi-Mango axis of Ore along the Okitipupa-Ore highway.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the accident occurred due to what appeared to be a misjudgment on the part of the siblings as they attempted to merge onto the highway. The truck, laden with sand, was unable to evade the motorcycle, leading to the fatal collision.
An anonymous resident recounted the sequence of events, highlighting the siblings' failure to observe oncoming vehicles before maneuvering onto the road.
"The driver of the truck fled the scene after the incident, while the truck itself has been impounded at the police station in Ore," the resident added.
Confirming the tragic accident, Ezekiel SonAllah, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, urged motorcyclists to exercise caution and avoid speeding while on the highway.
The bodies of the victims have been transferred to the General Hospital Mortuary in Ore, while the vehicles involved in the crash have been handed over to the NPF Ore Division for further investigation.
