
A suspected armed robber, believed to be part of a gang terrorizing residents along the Nkwo Enugwu-Ukwu Road in Njikoka Local Government Area, was killed in a gun battle with security forces, the Anambra State Police Command confirmed on Saturday.
The incident, detailed in a press statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, occurred after joint security operatives engaged the gang based on credible intelligence regarding their planned activities in the area.
“On 22nd November 2024 at approximately 10:30 a.m., a joint team of police officers and local vigilantes neutralized a suspected gang member operating along Nkwo Enugwu-Ukwu Road,” Ikenga said. “An AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and five rounds of live ammunition were recovered at the scene.”
The operatives reportedly acted swiftly to intercept the gang, initiating a gunfight that resulted in the death of one suspect. Other members of the gang managed to escape with injuries, prompting an ongoing security operation aimed at locating and apprehending the fugitives.
Ikenga assured residents that security personnel have intensified patrols in the area to prevent further criminal activities.
