The Zone 16 Police Command has apprehended three suspects in Rivers State for alleged involvement in fraudulent activities and possession of illicit drugs. The suspects, identified as Billion Ndubuisi, Charles Amachree, and Martins Chinemike, were paraded on Saturday in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

According to SP Gunn Emonena, the zone’s spokesperson, the arrests followed a raid by the Zonal Financial and Cyber Crime Unit on the Rumukparali community in Obio/Akpo Local Government Area. The operation, based on credible intelligence, uncovered evidence linking the suspects to fraud and drug-related crimes.

During the search of the suspects’ premises, officers recovered wraps of suspected hemp, two vehicles, two laptops, and ten mobile phones. The suspects also confessed to impersonating a U.S.-based lawyer, Ryam Bill, to defraud individuals named St. Andrea and Charles Zielinsky of $71,500.

Emonena disclosed that the suspects attempted to bribe the officers with $17,000, which was rejected. “The money has been registered and will be presented as evidence in court,” he confirmed.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 16, Adebola Hamzat, commended the professionalism of his officers and reiterated his commitment to safeguarding lives and property. Hamzat emphasized the dedication of the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to ensuring security across the nation.

The suspects are expected to face legal proceedings soon, as the recovered items and statements have been secured as part of the ongoing investigation.
