Renowned Yoruba movie actress and Canadian-based filmmaker Lola Alao has announced the death of her mother. The 55-year-old actress shared the sad news on her Instagram page on Friday, accompanied by cherished photos of her late mother.
In an emotional tribute, Alao expressed her love and deep loss. “Rest in perfect peace, my beautiful mom,” she wrote. “My beloved mom… you will forever be missed by every one of us. We love you, but God loves you more. Rest in perfect peace, my love.”
The announcement has drawn an outpouring of condolences from colleagues in the Nigerian film industry, including Iyabo Ojo, Jumoke George, and Tawa Ajisefini, who offered words of support and prayers for the grieving actress.
Lola Alao, known for her roles in classics such as *Alaanu Mi,* *Dokita Alabere,* *Ewe Koko,* and *Gbokogboko,* began her career as an air hostess before transitioning into acting with the popular Nigerian TV series *Ripples.* Over the years, she has become a household name in the Yoruba film industry.
Earlier this year, Alao reflected on her challenges as an immigrant in Canada. She recounted how a shocking incident with a dementia patient during her caregiving job led her to quit the role and pursue entrepreneurship by opening a clothing business. She used her experience to emphasize the importance of acquiring skills before relocating abroad.
As fans and colleagues rally around the actress during this difficult time, her mother’s passing marks another chapter in the star’s life, known for resilience and adaptability both on and off the screen.
