
The Niger State Police Command has arrested 26-year-old Umar Mohammed, a farmer from Farar-Doka village, for allegedly assaulting a six-year-old girl in Bangi, Mariga Local Government Area. The incident, which took place on January 26, 2025, was reported to the police on January 27, 2025, around 9 pm.
According to a statement from the police, issued by Public Relations Officer Wasiu Abiodun, the young victim had been sent on an errand to a nearby shop but returned late, visibly distressed and in tears. Upon investigation, it was revealed that Mohammed had accosted the child on her way home, lured her to a nearby bush, and committed the assault.
The police were promptly alerted, leading to Mohammed’s arrest. The victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Bangi for medical attention, while Mohammed was taken into custody for questioning.
“He confessed to the crime,” Abiodun stated, adding that Mohammed was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and legal proceedings.
The arrest has sparked outrage in the local community, as residents demand swift justice for the young victim. Authorities have assured the public that the investigation will be thorough and that the suspect will face appropriate charges.
