Try one of these approaches:

• Sensitive: Tell him you have something you want to talk about. Make sure you’re alone. Sit close to him, maybe even hold his hand. Use soft words instead of judgmental ones. For example, “I’ve noticed that sometimes…” is less accusatory than “You’re always…” Extreme tenderness could soften the blow.

• Casual: Bring up the issue casually, don’t present it as offensive, and easily segue into another topic. This could help your partner to take what you said with a grain of sugar. Don’t make them feel like anything else has to be said on the subject. Hopefully next time you see him, the problem will be solved.

• Funny: Seems like this could work if your relationship is already full of laughter and wit. Try cracking a joke about hygiene, or maybe an analogy for their particular issue. If they can’t handle the truth, they can always tell themselves you were only kidding.

• Empathetic: “You know I used to have a problem with excessive sweat, too.” Tell them you’re experience with poor hygiene, even if that means talking about an incident when you were 4 years old. Your own humility can make them feel less defensive.
