Jos- The gradual calm being experienced in the Plateau State capital was again shattered weekend as two separate bomb blasts rocked parts of the city creating anxiety among residents. The first blast occurred at about 9.30 pm on Saturday in Angwan Rimi area while another exploded along Sarki Mangu Street at about 6.30 am on Sunday.
No lives were, however, lost in the blasts but a car and nearby building were damaged.
Security officers spoken to described the blasts as minor.
It was learnt that Saturday’s blast came from an empty groundnut oil can believed to have been laden with explosives shattering a taxi parked in the streets and damaging nearby buildings.
Sunday’s blast which occurred near the residence of the national leader of the Izala Islamic Sect, along Sarkin Mangu Street left no property damaged.
Commissioner of police in the state, Mr. Dipo Ayeni confirmed the blasts adding that the anti bomb unit of the police was despatched to the two scenes as soon as the reports were received.
He said they combed the areas and found no other explosives while no arrest has been made. He advised the people to be calm and go about their duties adding that security agencies were investigating the incidents.
