Police in Osun State have told an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court how an accused drugged a trader, Kunle Araoye, and carted away phones worth N750,000.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Isiaka Ajadi, who testified before Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode, on Monday, said Araoye boarded the same vehicle with the accused and was drugged in the process.
Ajadi did not state where the trader and the accused were coming from or heading to in his testimony before the court.
A 32-year-old suspect, Paul Anyanwu, was arraigned by the police over the allegation.
The charge sheet, which did not state the number of the phones, said Anyawu stole the cell phones on April 6, 2012 at Capital area, Dada Estate in Osogbo around 4.00 pm.
It alleged that the accused conspired with others at large to drug the sachet water given to the trader before carting away his goods.
Anyanwu, who was in court, entered a ‘not guilty’ plea to the two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing – punishable under Section 516 Cap 34 Volume II, laws of Osun, 2003.
His lawyer, Mrs Nnennah Ngwu, applied for his bail, saying the court had the discretion to admit the accused to bail on liberal terms.
