Information emerging from the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe, has assured Nigerians that President Goodluck Jonathan is working to fix Nigeria and to ensure that there is a very significant forward progress in the economy of the country through massive job creation in different sectors, which will lead to wealth creation and massive reduction in criminal activities.
Making these submissions on Thursday in Lagos while delivering a speech on the state of the nation in an interactive session with news editors, Dr Okupe quoted the president as saying that the year 2013 would be Nigeria’s year of glory and positive changes in all facets of life.
His words: “The president is committed to delivering on his pact with the Nigerian people as contained in his Transformation Agenda. He is unwavering in that commitment and will by the grace of God take this nation to a greater destination. Nigerians must not despair. There is a glorious tomorrow for this great nation.”
Outlining the achievements of the president in 2012 in line with certain goals he set for major sectors of the Nigerian economy, Okupe, while speaking on the nation’s security, said over 70 per cent of planned insurgent attacks were foiled before actualisation, adding that they were largely unreported because they did not happen. He says, “It is noteworthy that the rate at which this insurgency has been curtailed in the last 12 months is equally unsurpassed. Due to the increased capacity of security agencies in the area of intelligence gathering, I can report to you that over 70 per cent of planned insurgent attacks were foiled before actualisation. These are largely unreported because they did not happen and this is a good thing. The intelligence arm of our security agencies has deployed massive modern technology to pre-empt and destabilise these criminal elements who intended to cause harm.”
