I write with eyes full of tears and sorrow remembering the fateful day that I was turned to nothing. I came back from work to find my entire family outside with hands placed on their heads. People gathered round with buckets of water trying hard to put off the fire but to no avail. My house (A four (4) bedroom bungalow situated at Atan Obio, Obio Offot, Uyo was on fire. All personal effect; including clothings, furniture, electronics, certificates belonging to me and the members of my family were all destroyed.
That was on 25th and 26th March 2007, a football riot that broke out in Uyo after a football march between Akwa United football club of Uyo and Enyimba football club of Aba, claimed everything I labored for many years.
Several houses and business properties were destroyed. Many people were rendered homeless. The hardship, frustrations and trauma that we pass through can not be imagined. We have been reduced to refugee condition in our own country.
Several attempts to gain the attention of the Able State Governor of Akwa Ibom state to help us bring our lives to normal have proved abortive.
We plead for the attention of the State Governor, good Nigerians, the Igbo community and concerned people of Akwa Ibom to help us as we are still suffering the effect of that dreadful attack.
