The gastroenterologist who performed the endoscopy on Joan Rivers has been fired by the clinic where the comedienne and actress went into cardiac arrest.
According to ABCNews, Dr. Lawrence Cohen, the medical director of the facility, was asked to leave Yorkville Endoscopy and has since stepped down. Though he is not being blamed for Rivers' death, sources say he reportedly allowed an ear, nose, and throat specialist who was unaffiliated with the clinic to examine Rivers. The unauthorized specialist was also present at the time of the endoscopy.
ABC News adds that neither Dr. Cohen or the other physician (who has yet to be identified) have been charged with any wrongdoing, although the New York State Health Department is investigating.
