The Federal Government is set to revoke virtually all lands allocated by the former FCT Minister, Malam Nasir el-Rufa'I, NT can authoritatively reveal.   Informed sources in the FCT Ministry and the Presidency told NT in Abuja that the action followed growing public outcry against the last minute allocation of plots at the twilight of ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo's regime in May 2007, by el-Rufa'i.
It would be recalled that the erstwhile FCT captain had revoked and/or allocated hundreds of parcels of choice lands in Abuja to himself, wife, children, friends and close associates about the time he was expected to hand over the FCTship to his successor, Dr Aliyu Modibbo Umar.
el-Rufa'i's indignity generated public ire and unprecedented condemnation that prompted the National Assembly to probe the land revocations and re-allocations effected by that administration.

Similarly, President Umaru Yar'Adua was also said to have been inundated with series of complaints and petitions that almost embarrassed him and decided to inquire into the matter with a view to resolving it amicably.

NT gathered that the President's panel of inquiry thoroughly investigated the issue and recommended for outright revocation or invalidation of the irregular land allocations. The committee also suggested that the revoked pieces of land should be returned to their original allottees with proven ownership or titled deeds cleared by the AGIS.
This followed el-Rufa'i's refusal to appear before any panel of inquiry to defend himself of the alleged misdeeds.
Observers are, however, worried over the faith of the original land beneficiaries who would most likely lose out of the new policy and those latter allottees who might had developed or improved on their lands or properties.
But the situation will enable the Federal Government to ascertain the authentic owners of the affected lands to come forward and claim them.
