Real Madrid will play host to German powerhouse Borussia Dortmund at the Santiago Bernabeu in their final Uefa Champions League Group H game on Wednesday night.
Los Blancos sealed their place in the last 16 after thrashing APOEL Nicosia 6-0 in Cyprus last time out. They however sit in second place, three points behind leaders Tottenham Hotspur. Even if Real win, they will be hoping Spurs falter when they take on APOEL, in a bid to claim to top spot.
It has been an absolutely disappointing European campaign for BVB as they have failed to win a single group game and can only show two points for all their efforts. All they can hence aim for is a place in the Europa League which they can get with victory in Spain at with the hope that APOEL don’t claim a result against Tottenham.
This fixture is usually high octane and regardless of the fact that their fates have been virtually decided, a lot of entertainment is still expected. This clash produces an average of three goals as seen in the reverse fixture which ended 3-1 to Zinedine Zidane’s side.
Another outcome of more than three goals is predicted while a 3-1 scoreline in favour of the reigning European champions is also possible.
None of Dortmund’s last 37 Champions League games have ended goalless. To that effect, we can expect to see both teams score.
The usual suspects for goalscoring are Cristiano Ronaldo and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. With 10 goals between in this group phase they are predicted to score anytime.
