
THREE persons in-laws to one Adelogba Muyiwa who was beaten to death for alleged maltreating his wife have been remanded in Olokuta prison by an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court for alleged murder. The three accused persons, are Adegboyega Adeola 26, Oniyere Bisi 46, and Oniyere Ojo 18.
They allegedly committed the offence at the Community Health Center Ifira-Akoko in the Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state. They were arraigned on a two-count charge of felony to with murder.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Meshach Emmanuel said that the accused persons allegedly caused the death of the deceased as they allegedly by hit him with plank and irons which resulted to his death. The charge sheet stated that, the three accused persons and one at large committed the offence on June 19, 2018 at about 5:30pm at Community Health Center Ifira-Akoko. The offence was said to be contrary to section 316 and punishable under Sections 324,319(1) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
However, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the offence when the charge was read to them but their plea was not taken by the court. The police prosecutor prayed the court to remand the accused persons in Olokuta Prison custody to enable the court send the duplicate of the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice. Sergeant Meshach Emmanuel also pleaded with the court to adjourn the case pending the outcome of the legal advice from the DPP’s Office.
The chief magistrate, Mrs.Victoria Bob-Manuel in her ruling, ordered the remand of the accused persons in the Olokuta Prison custody pending the out of the legal advice by the DPP. Victoria thereafter adjourned the case till August 16, 2018.
Recall that the deceased was beaten to death by his Inlaw over domestic disagreement with his wife ltunu because he planned to marry another wife. The deceased was reportedly lynched and beaten to death by his in-laws after he was alleged to have beaten his wife, Itunnu Adelogba, to coma after challenging him on his plan to marry another wife. The deceased who was a native doctor, informed his wife who he married some few months ago, from hes former husband of his intention to marry another wife. The wife was said to have objected to the moves and an argument ensued between the couple, leading to a serious scuffle while the wife was said to have fainted and rushed to a nearby hospital in the town.
His inlaws later invaded the deceased home and beat him until he gave up the ghost.
