Man, 34, kills 64-year-old mother, says it’s to fulfil the scriptures (Page 3)

A 34-year- old man identified as Raphael Asien, reportedly hacked his 64-year-old mother to death on Thursday, in Benin City, saying the killing was in fulfillment of the scriptures.

Asien, a father of one daughter, is currently being detained at the cell of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Police Headquarters, Benin City over the murder incident.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that he killed his mother last Thursday morning, with a battle axe on the claim that God revealed to him that his late mother was using him as a sacrifice for the prosperity of her other three children, who live and work abroad.

“In fact, it was a judgment day for the family because I have suffered too long.” Asien was quoted as saying.

The incident was said to have occurred at Etinosa Street, off Upper Sokponba road, Benin City at about 7.26 am last Thursday.

It was further learnt that the suspect after shattering his mother’s skull with the battle axe also attempted beheading his younger sister, who sources, said escaped with serious injuries and was now receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

No member of the deceased family could be reached for comments as the family house was locked as at Sunday.
