Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) has apologised over his claim that Kingsley Moghalu, former presidential candidate of the Young Peoples Party (YPP), resigned from his party in order to accept an appointment from the current administration.
In a swift reaction, Moghalu described the allegations as a surprise and an embarrassment that a man of Mr. Falana’s standing could make such weighty statements without verification.
He, therefore, demanded an apology and a public retraction from Falana.
In response, Falana apologized, saying he did not mean to embarrass the former presidential candidate.
In a statement titled ‘My Mea Culpa’, issued on Tuesday, Falana said:
“While confirming his resignation from the YPP, Professor Moghalu has stated that he has neither joined the ruling party nor accepted an appointment from the federal government. I believe him in honeypot.
“I did not set out to embarrass Professor Moghalu as it was a case of mistaken identity. Any embarrassment caused by the incorrect aspect of the statement is deeply regretted.”
Hence, he was now going to dedicate his time to a citizens’ movement called Build A Nation (TBAN).
