Nigeria President Goodluck Jonathan has suspended the national football team from international competition for the next two years following their poor performance in the World Cup, a senior adviser said today.
"Mr President has directed that Nigeria will withdraw from all international football competition for the next two years to enable Nigeria to reorganise its football," Ima Niboro, a special adviser to Goodluck Jonathan, told reporters.
"This directive became necessary following Nigeria's poor performance in the ongoing FIFA World Cup."
Nigeria were knocked out in the first round.

If that will be the case, Nigeria will be banned for extra two years by the FIFA bcos it happened in Togo some years back when Togo President lay ban on the nation team for two years. FIFA does not want politics involvement in football. Am sure that will be FIFA´s decision for nigeria. It is even good for nigeria team not even to play for 10 years bcos they are giving us heart-attack and bring us low in world football.

Exactly! I think President Goodluck better go back to the drawing board and come out of the Politics of Football. What he need to do is encourage them to have a new squad one that is dedicated only to Nigeria Football. These guys when they are playing for Clubs they don't care anymore for the country. The money at the country level is not as high as the club level and so they play dispassionately.
Build a side that will play for NIGERIA ONLY for the 4 years and then after World Cup they can be brought by the Clubs. Look at Christian Ronaldo four years ago he was one of Portugal star now he is a have been. It also goes for the Jamaican Players they were all Jamaica until they get big contract in England and USA (Major League) they don't care anymore.
We need persons who will remember that they are representing the country and not thinking about money.
Godly WISDOM is to Fear God. His UNDERSTANDING is to resist the devil.

Dat serve them right, because how can a coach carry players that is too sluggish, heavy to control the ball and carry himself just like Aiyegbemi Yakubu & Danny Shittu, players thatare not fit to play just like John Utaka, Martins, Kanu. They should retain Enyeama, Osaze, Martins, Uche and Nsofor

Good, very good. pls Mr President should also take a bolder step in dissolving the NFF. if he truly meant well for Nigerian football then all those saboteurs parading themselves as NFF board should be sent packing with immediate effect. they have no business been there in the first place.

get ur facts right... Togo was ban by fifa simply b/cos they took a unilateral decision with out informing the ruling body. but in this case the presidential spokes man (sports) has already made it know that the FG re set to meet with fifa officials over this b/4 the ban 'll be effected.

The outing in South Africa was disappointing to every body ! However what we need is analysis of what went wrong, learn from it and proffer a way forward. We need to have a long term plan of graduating our junior teams to the next level and not dumping them after achieving glory for the country. Siasia tutored flying Eagles would have done...
