The Lagos executive of “IBB For President” which has been working for the former military dictator in the state since 2003, has also been schemed out with a new coordinator appointed in controversial circumstances, P.M.NEWS checks can reveal.
The move to replace Mr. Ebunola Martins, the Lagos State Coordinator of IBB’s campaign team, with Mr. Raman Owokoniran, described by party members as an outsider, has hit the rocks with many state People’s Democratic Party (PDP) national delegates vowing to work against IBB in the primaries if the action is allowed to stand.
Mr. Olumide Adesoyin, Chairman PDP Mushin Local Government, who is in charge of coordinating all the Local Government councils in Lagos for IBB, told P.M.NEWS early today that the party was being hijacked by Mrs. Remi Adiukwu-Bakare’s camp for “selfish interest”, adding that “this will work against IBB if nothing urgent is done”.
“When we came back from Abuja yesterday and learnt of what happened, we were very disappointed and shocked. Raman Owokorinan was the campaign coordinator of Obanikoro in 2007 and he failed woefully. How can that same person who was not even part of us for many years be appointed to coordinate Lagos?
“As it is now, he wants to dismantle the entire structure in the state and rebuild it in two weeks. How can that be possible? It can only be for selfish interest.
“What we are saying now is that Mr. Ebunola Martins who has been the coordinator must remain the coordinator. We will not change our position for anything,” he told P.M.NEWS in Lagos this morning.
A party source told P.M.NEWS that during a meeting that took place in Abuja on Saturday, some key allies of IBB walked out dissatisfied. Among them was Mr. Frank Ogboro, a very close ally of IBB who is in charge of coordinating his campaign in the South West.
The source said that the new executive that has purportedly been brought in intends to share the N50 million instead of using the money to campaign for IBB.
“Remi Adiukwu Bakare just hates Mr. Martins because Mr. Martins took her husband to court seven years ago over some business deals and she has vowed that Mr. Martins will not be the coordinator of IBB.
“She also wants to be governor of Lagos State and the purportedly dissolved executive did not favour her. She has vowed that will do anything she can to stop Mr. Martins from representing IBB here in Lagos. This is absolute nonsense,” he said.
Supporters of IBB in Ondo State have also threatened to protest if Ebunola, who is an Ondo prince, is not returned to his position.
“When Mr. Martins arrived on board Dana Airline yesterday, some coordinators of Ondo PDP received him at the airport and told him that they are solidly behind him. But, with all this, nobody can tell what will happen now,” the source said.
