Netflix has official launched its Nigerian offering signifying it entrance into the African movie market and choosing Nigeria as the starting point. Netflix has become a global phenomenon since its arrival as it has completely changed the cinema and movie landscape in the world, it has been launching in several niche countries like UK, India, China and now it is headed to Nigeria. Before now, Naijapals is the largest distributor of Nigerian and Nollywood movies in Africa after it premiered several high profile Nigerian movies through its website and on youtube, there has been other players in the Nigerian movie industry like IrokoTV, OkinTV, IbakaTV, ApataTV and many others; The arrival of Netflix is obviously a bad news for these current platforms as they are in position to be cannibalised by Netflix's superior financial strength and general buying power. If warning signs is anything to go by, then the Netflix launch party which saw Adekunle Gold perform to a host of top Nigeria movie directors and producers like Omoni Oboli, Kunle Afolayan, Banky W, RMD, Charles Novia, Ramsey Noah, Kate Henshaw, Mo Abudu and Ireti Doyle - This lineup is represents the creme-de-la-creme of the Nigerian movie industry.
We patiently anticipate the next moves of Netflix Naija as news is already filtering that they are filming their first Nigeria series which should premiere on the platform pretty soon! It is goodluck to Naijapals and others and goodluck to netflix
