Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has apologised to the Nigerian government after the building housing high commission staff was demolished on Friday night.

In a press statement, the ministry said it viewed with concern the development, which is a breach of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

It expressed regrets over the demolition.

“While expressing regrets over the incident, the Ministry wishes to reassure the diplomatic community in Ghana and the Nigerian High Commission in particular that Ghana remains a law abiding country that upholds the principle of the rule of law”.

Officials will be visiting the Nigerian High Commission tomorrow to access the damage done to the property, one report said.

The plot of land in dispute houses the residence of the Nigerian High commissioners residence and four other buildings

It was allocated to the Nigerian government in the sixties.

A portion of the land had remained undeveloped until eight years ago when building work began.

A Ghanaian businessman claims legitimate ownership of the land.

Nigeria and the Ghanaian governments resolved the ownership issue, when Nigeria paid fifty million Ghanaian cedis for the land.

Building works commenced on a portion of the land after all approvals were sought and obtained from regulatory authorities.

Nigeria’s foreign minister Geoffrey Onyeama strongly condemned the demolition earlier today.

Quote
“We strongly condemn two outrageous criminal attacks in Accra, #Ghana, on a residential building in our diplomatic premises by unknown persons in which a bulldozer was used to demolish the building”, Onyeama tweeted.

“We are engaging the Ghanaian Government and demand urgent action to find the perpetrators and provide adequate protection for Nigerians and their property in Ghana”,
he wrote.

What are you guys talking about? What do you mean they apologizes? Do you know how many times the Ghanaian Government had demolished properties belonging to Nigerians in Ghana? Do you know how many times the police has brutalized Nigerians for just no reason? This Ghanaian are very cony people let me tell you now. They will pretend to be sorry but in Ghana they will be boasting of what they have done to Nigerian Embassy. If Nigeria do not make them pay dearly for this demolition, i assure you they will do things more worst than that in the future. Ghanaian hate Nigerians with passion and the earlier Nigerian Government realize that the better. Especially the NPP/Nana Addo Government. I recall last year when they started asking Nigerians in Ghana for residence Permit in an ECOWAS Country. I will be so ashamed to be called a Nigerian if we let Ghana Government go scotch free for this act. I plead with the Nigerian Government to sanction Nana Addo Government in anyway possible so that they will stop treating Nigerians as slaves in their Country. The President in his speech yesterday when he addressed Ghanaian said nothing about the demolition and you are here telling me they apologized. Apologized where. They should do an open apology where the whole Ghanaian will hear since everybody saw what happened and not in back yard where nobody will see it then they will take the Glory in their Country. They should be made to pay dearly for this

APOLOGIES NOT ACCEPTED, NEVER ACCEPETED. IF THE NIGERIAN GOVERMENT WILL NOT PUT A STOP TO ALL THESE INSULTS THEN THEY ARE COWARD AND SHAME ON THEM.
