Bandits operating within Katsina and Zamfara States, on Monday, attacked the convoy of the Zamfara State Commissioner of Security and Home Affairs, Hon. Abubakar Dauran, killing his driver on the spot.

It was gathered that many persons were also injured in the attack.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred when the commissioner was coming from Katsina State where he had gone to hand over the 26 kidnapped minors rescued by Zamfara State Government to the Katsina State Government.

When contacted, the state police command confirmed the incident, saying that the armed bandits did not confront the commissioner and his convoy directly.

In a statement signed and made available to newsmen in Gusau, the state capital, the police spokesman, SP Mohammed Shehu, said the convoy was caught in a crossfire by two bandits groups.
“The government delegation led the commissioner of Security and Home Affairs, Hon. Abubakar Dauran was caught in a crossfire between two warring bandits groups at Dogon Karfi, GidanJaji, along Zurmi – Jibiya road, in Zurmi Local Government area of Zamfara State,” the statement said.

Shehu appealed to the general public to always assist the security agencies with useful information that could lead to the arrest of bandits.

You people and being economical with the truth! What is, he being caught in a crossfire when the driver died on the spot! C'mon now, he was targeted! I have never being to Zamfara and I often wondered why or what's the attraction that made the state a breeding ground to armed robbers and kidnappers. And to target Commissioner for security? Hmn, let the money for security vote be spent on wiping off the hoodlums. This is scary.
