I saw the video recording of the scene Mr Ikuforiji and entourage made with a young lady, Mrs. Ufuoma Ejenobor, and wondered what all that siren noise I heard in the background was for. We Lagosians pass by the Lagos State Governor [Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN] himself [and his wife, too] daily and have never got hounded out of the road by his entourage and aides. He does not use that threat-inducing and demeaning instrument - siren - and, so, you can imagine how many stressed Lagos drivers, oblivious of the Governor’s convoy, may have, out of necessity, cut into his convoy just as the lady in question must have done on that October 29, 2010. And we haven't heard of any untoward story like this because the Governor realizes that every other person has some right and dignity he wouldn't want to demean by hounding us all out of the road each time he is moving around Lagos. And we love him for that; this is apart from the very good work he is doing for us in Lagos, obviously with the support of the Lagos State Legislature of which Mr. Ikuforiji is a member! I'm not particularly interested in any allegations of abuse of power, insurance fraud or whatever but would just want to point to Mr. Ikuforiji that he is only the first among so many Lagos State House of Assembly equal members BY THE GRACE OF GOD, the same God who created and gave individual dignity to that lady and the rest of us all. Just like him, she is a famous public figure. If I may add, while fame might be common to both of them, she is far ahead of him in terms of popularity. If he really understand the demographics at play, his is hinged on the limited [Nigerian politics] thousands of [18 and above] 'voters' in his Epe backyard while hers is across board, nation-wide and international! She, therefore, didn't have anything to gain from the scene created on that day and she could have gone about her legitimate business of that day unnoticed had his aides not provoked her and threatened her personal dignity! I will advise Mr. Ikuforiji to rein in those his aides throwing about those unconvincing apologia [because, unfortunately, they don't wash with the mass victim reading public which knows better], call in the lady, apologise to her and find an amicable settlement that will put the matter to rest. Just an advice [which can, of course, be discarded as mere moralizing which shouldn’t have a place in Nigeria’s “life-chopping” politics ], Mr. Speaker!

Now national assembly plans to sue the actress to being a miscreant

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday said it will take a legal action against claims made by a Nollywood actress, Ufoma Ejenabor.

Addressing a media briefing on the issue, Segun Olusesi, the Chief of Staff of the Assembly, said the House will make the issue a deterrent case. The incident, which happened on October 29 on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, had two different accounts from the two parties.

While Ufoma claimed one of the vehicles (the Pilot) in the lawmakers' convoy hit her Nissan Xterra car, Mr. Olusesi, who claimed to be driving directly behind the Pilot vehicle said Miss Ufoma drove into the convoy, hitting the left rear of ‘the pilot ‘ vehicle's bumper with her right front bumper.

"Even if it is true that we hit her car, which cannot be proven from the video recording, when there is an accident on the road, the first thing you do is not to call a lawyer. So, it was obvious she was onto something right from the beginning and that was why the Speaker directed that everything be recorded," he said.

A rowdy scene ensued and rather than continue on their journey to Lagos University Teaching Hospital to visit an ailing lawmaker, who died three days later, the lawmakers decided to drive to Zone 2 Police headquarters at Onikan. As seen from the footage provided, the intervention of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Lateef Junaid could not resolve the impasse as Mrs. Ejenabor refused all entreaties.

Claims and counter claims

Though, Mrs. Ejenabor did not make any statement to the police, she claimed, in a letter dated November 2 and written to the Speaker by her lawyer, Obinna Ukawoko, that she was beaten and that her vehicle was damaged. She also alleged that the following items stolen: white gold necklace (N850,000), Silver Gucci wristwatch (N475,000), Pink Ipod (N55,000), Blackberry Bold (N150,000) and Channel Sunglasses ($1,215). She also claimed that her wedding band, worth £3,000 was broken and her damaged vehicle will be repaired for N595,000.

"We have our client's firm directive to demand N35million as compensation," said the letter, advising the Speaker, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, to quickly pay in order to avert imminent bad publicity and legal action.

Mr. Olusesi rebuffed all the claims, saying that the video showed Mrs. Ejenabor as she drove her car away from the police station without any visible damage and she still had her wedding band and bag while she was at the station.

"The photograph of her damaged car, as she claimed in the media, can be best described as insurance fraud and an attempt to extort and blackmail this Honourable House and the Right Honourable Speaker in particular," he said.

"Nobody touched her. At a time when the security officers were not sure what to do with her, one of them wanted to deflate her tyres, but the Speaker kept shouting from inside his vehicle that nobody should touch her vehicle." "If she was beaten by policemen as she claimed, she won't be the one to drive her vehicle to Zone 2 headquarters. Her dress was intact throughout and she claimed she was stripped. She alleged that her fingernails were broken but she refused to show the police. And if she was truly in pains as a result of the beating, she will not be able to put up such display at the police station." "She provoked everybody present, including the members of the public. She wanted to be beaten by the way she behaved but we were lucky and matured enough, especially because we were in a state of mourning and that is why we didn't give it to her."

In as much as the Nigeria police has their shortcomings, Ufuoma's action is nothing to write home about. There are more matured and civilized ways she could have used to drive her point home and with respect not thru a claim of 35million naira. The question is ...Is she really worth 35 million naira? She is only ranting like a school girl. Wake up girl and be matured.

i think it is hightime we rally knows how to resolve dispute amicably, and not unnecesserily creating a scene and laying of false accusation and white lies.

the reason is that of hatred, majority of nigerians hate our police men even when they the police were right.

wetin concern Armed Forces with dis story? ibi like say u no really understand the context of d above story? read it again please.
Some civilians in often times cross their boundary in d name of human right. who gave her d guts to overtake a VIP convoy? convoy which include leading n backup cars are meant to prevent dangers such as assailants n unnecessary accident etc against d VIP while on transit. general public should be informed n know how to respect themselves so as to avert such situations.

i am sure u are one those stupid men in uniform that have no respect for civility. this your comment simply shows that you are an a uniformed man. in civil society where there is rule of law every body respect themselves be it even the president ok.

This video is deceptive. It contains a reaction to an action. As far as i know, this reaction is not important. The police escort has taken the law into their hands and assaulted the girl. No human been will display this kind of emotion without an assault. She has the right to call her lawyer if she feels mistreated. I saw in the video a policeman attempting to deflate her tyres. This is suppose to be a policeman mearnt to protect life and property.

I don't believe that she drove into the convoy. She is not a mad woman though they are trying to make her look so in the video recording her reaction to their earlier assault. Why did they ceize her phone? And where is the phone?

Police and Politicians are destroying that country. Police knows how to change things. Armed robbers on uniform. Armed robbers in suit and agbada. You thought that she don't have mouth to speak for herself. She spoke for herself now some are angry. You thought she is an illiterate that you people can just harass and go free.

The deputy because of his position and the recording spoke well. That does not represent the police force that assaulted the young beauty we saw. Imagine if the speaker in his agbada spoke the way the deputy did, the girl would have listen. We all know her. We watch her. She is our pride. She is the pride of Nollywood. She is a very decent girl. They just mishandled and mistreated her. Even a dog can bite his owner when angry.

Well said......... lets open our eyes and face the facts. she was only reacting to somthin dat was done to her.. i leave u with the following thots.
1. why was her fone taken away frm her. Obviously she filmed somthin and dey dint want it to get out
2. The video we all saw was clearly one sided and doctored.why dint dey show wen dey hit her car?
3. I am not in anyway supporting her actions but i felt she was jus "fightinh" for her right
4. I must commend the deputy commisioner for the way he tried to handle the case though i wonder if he was jus acting for the camera.lol

I REST MY CASE...

NB---Pls nobody shld reply to my post o... jus my candid opinion

the deputy police commissioner was acting on camera  and secondly because of the personality that was involved too. let him not deceive us because we know the mentality of an average nigerian police man. we no go clap for the DCP even he cried and knelt down to beg the lady. he was only acting his own home movie because i could read his actions and movement looking at the the camera.

this is out of place! she is a disgrace to acting profession! it was an accident and could not have been intentional! she should have been diplomatic and respectful in dragging home her point not her display of iresponsibility!

it all depend on the way she was approached by the offenders who happened to be the police.

pls tell all this stupid people that are blaming the lady,i live right opposite the the national assembly house and the presidential office in the country where i am living and i have never seen any of them even the president herself causing nuisance with sirens or causing a public disorder with his or her convoy. you will not even know when she passes you by. the only people that uses siren here is the emergency workers like the ambulance services and the fire fighters, that is only when there is an emergency. here police dont drive against the one way as it they do in nigeria,no matter the distress call. it is only in nigerian that bullions vans drivers drove with sirens, the government officials, police men, military and even the para military drives against the one ways and would humiliate and intimidate those who are driving on their normal lane.
