Members of the National Assembly have come under hard knocks for allegedly placing their personal political interests above the collective good of Nigerians. In the assessment of the African Renaissance Party (ARP), the federal legislators are, “bunch of contractors and not lawmakers.”

Speaking in an interview with Daily Sun, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Omenazu Jackson expressed shock at the, “purported attempt” by the lawmakers to make themselves automatic members of their respective party’s National Executive Council (NEC).
Jackson who scored the National Assembly members low in their legislative duties so far, urged Nigerians to be on their guard and resist any attempt to desecrate the country’s democratic institutions.

“The kind of laws, bills and acts emanating from the National Assembly should keep Nigerians on their guard. Many of the lawmakers know how they got there and they are securing their illegal mandate from the back door.

“How could they force Nigerians to accept that a member of National Assembly is his party’s NEC member? They want to impose themselves on Nigerians which is illegal… What they are trying to do is desecrate our democratic institution and we cannot accept that.”
The ARP spokesman told the Federal lawmakers to expect a political and legal fight from Nigerians especially his party, over the development.

“We will use everything politically and legally expedient to stop that nuisance value they constitute at the National Assembly. Enough of this nonsense,” he said. Describing the assembly as “a prostitute chamber,” Chief Jackson reminded the lawmakers that Nigerians “have a right to chase them out, lock the place and ask them to go home.”

He regretted that although the nation’s National Assembly is the most expensive in the world, it has performed far below the people’s expectation. “We are tired of what they are doing there. That National Assembly is the most expensive in the world and yet all they do is make laws that will take us back to the 1940s and make us a mockery among the democratic nations of the world. They should be grateful to the nation.”

The ARP top official advised the National Assembly to, “make laws that will strengthen our democratic institutions and not to circumvent it.”
