As the battle for various elective positions in 2011 heats up, Kano State Governor, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be shocked in the outcome of the elections as Nigerians have since discovered that the party is not a credible platform that can transform the nation for good.

Speaking with aviation correspondents in Lagos at the weekend, Shekarau said Nigerians were now wiser and ready to ensure their votes count by resisting any form of rigging by the PDP.
He said the constant nullification of gubernatorial election results in some states by various Appeal Court judgements were clear indications that the party never won any election under a credible and transparent process.

The Kano State governor said the PDP would have, between 2007 till date, lost more than 11 states, if only those robbed of their victories had the capability to challenge the elections. “The ordinary Nigerian has seen it today, that the problem is not a question of which party but who is being presented by the parties. The so-called PDP is claiming to be the largest in Africa has seen that you can be as large as anything, but if you are fraudulent, to hell with your size. We have seen it today, so far from 2007 to date, in PDP state s elections have been disqualified in 11 states.

“I am sure that even in the other states, if the opponents, had the resources and the capability to go to court, many more would have gone down. You have seen it today, it is a clear indication that they did not win elections anywhere, Nigerians are out for a change and this is what we want to mobilise Nigerians for,” the governor stated. He said his vision is to rescue the nation’s sinking ship to the shore of hope using credible leadership as the compass.

He added that the problem in the country was partly attributed to loss of confidence on the leadership of the country, stressing that his ambition as a president was to put things right. “Largely, our problem in Nigeria is loss of confidence. Most Nigerians have lost confidence in government; they do not trust the leaders.

The Nigerian on the street believe that the average leader in Nigeria is a thief; that he is corrupt, he is unfair and unjust. We need to build up this confidence in the average Nigerian that they have to trust their leaders.
“This is going to be our central focus before we talk of water, road, electricity etc.

If there is confidence and there is godliness in leadership, every other thing is almost child’s play. And our vision to transforming Nigeria is not about alternative platform, what we are talking is credible leadership, let there be credible leadership under my present platform,” he said.
