There was a mild drama on the floor of the Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday as the name of the interim chairman appointed for Ibadan South-East Local Government of the state was changed thrice within a few minutes.

Following last week’s dissolution of the 33 local governments in the state, the house had approved the appointment of interim chairmen for some of them. One of the nominees was Mr. Adedoja Bolarinwa, who was named the chairman of Ibadan South-East Local Government.

But in a letter sent to the assembly by the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Olayiwola Olakojo, and read on the floor of the house on Tuesday, the state government named Mr. Sakiru Fagunwa as a replacement for Bolarinwa.

Other nominees, according to the letter, are Mr. Ismail Alao for Ibadan South-West Local Government and Mr. Tunji Omolewu for Ibarapa North Local Government.

But while the legislators were about to commence deliberation on the nomination, a member of the house held a brief discussion with the Speaker, Mr. Moroof Atilola.

At the end of the short talk, Atilola announced that deliberation on the nomination would be stepped down.

A few minutes later, the letter was read again but by that time, Fagunwa had been replaced with Mr. Akeem Olatunji.

With this, Olatunji replaced Bolarinwa as the interim chairman of Ibadan South-East Local Government.

No reason was given for the replacement.

No interim chairman has so far been named for Ibarapa East Local Government.

After the approval, Atilola reiterated his call on the newly-appointed council helmsmen and those appointed last week to be prudent in spending public funds.
