Kenyan-American, Elkanah Kibet Wins 2023 Lagos City Marathon; Goes Home With $50,000 Prize Tag

Kenyan-American Elkanah Kibet has won the 8th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon with a time of 2:14:00.

He overtook meet record holder and former race leader David Bamasai at the 26km mark to clinch the 2023 Lagos City Marathon.

Kibet has thus won the $50,000 prize tag for the Marathon.

The Marathon took off from National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos an terminated at the Eko Atlantic City.

Kibet is a Kenyan-born American long distance runner. An alumnus of Auburn University, he is also a financial management technician in the United States Army and competes in marathons as a member of the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program.

The first Nigerian to reach the finish line in the 2023 Lagos City Marathon got there in an impressive time of 2hrs 14mins 6secs.

This is only 6 seconds shy of the winner who finished in 2hrs 14mins 00secs.

even in the US, he may need to work for a minimum of 1year before he can gather $50k into an account. Smart move and well done!
