The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has ordered the immediate removal of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Okokomaiko for his lack of supervision of his men.
The removal order came less than 24 hours after SaharaReporters reported that policemen attached to the division of the Lagos Command, forcefully extorted a mobile phone dealer at the Alaba International Market, the sum of N100,000 without committing any offence.
The phone dealer identified as Onyinyechi Esther Anwusi, was forcefully asked transfer the N100,000 from his Access Bank account to the corrupt police officers after they labelled him a fraudster.
SaharaReporters obtained a copy of the transaction receipt of the sum of N101,000 generated from Access Bank mobile App by the victim.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa, ordered the immediate removal of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
This was made known on Saturday by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who added that CP Owohunwa also ordered commencement of disciplinary action against the DPO and all his officers indicted in SaharaReporters’ story for engaging in a forceful extortion of N100,000 from a phone dealer in Alaba International Market, Lagos.
A mobile phone dealer at the Alaba International Market, Lagos who identified herself as Onyinyechi Esther Anwusi, lamented how some policemen attached to the Okokomaiko Division of the Lagos State Police Command, forcefully extorted the sum of N100,000 from him without finding incriminating evidence on him.
SaharaReporters obtained a copy of the transaction receipt of the sum of N101,000 generated from Access Bank mobile App by the victim.
The receipt showed that the money was received by Ndueso Okon Archibong with the account number 9550455342, PalmPay Limited.
Reacting to the report, the State police spokesperson further said that the indicted police officers are already in the state police headquarters for disciplinary actions against them.
“CP Idowu Owohunwa has ordered the immediate removal of DPO Okokomaiko for his lack of supervision of his men. CP Owohunwa has also ordered commencement of disciplinary action against him and all his indicted officers (who are already in the state headquarters),” the PPRO said.
