
In a significant crackdown on railway vandalism, the military has apprehended five individuals suspected of vandalizing railway tracks and sleepers in Sarkin Pawa, Munya Local Government Area of Niger State. These suspects are currently in police custody awaiting further investigation.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, revealed this while parading the suspects in Minna. According to him, they were intercepted by the military with a truckload of the vandalized items, signaling a breakthrough in the fight against railway infrastructure sabotage.
"The suspects were intercepted and arrested by the military components at Sarkin Pawa with a RAF truck vehicle fully loaded with railway tracks and sleepers suspected to have been vandalized from the railway site," stated the CP during the parade.
The apprehended suspects include Adekunle Saheed, 44 years old, hailing from Oyo State; Saifullahi Umar, 36 years old, from Katsina State; Awal Mansir, 25 years old, also from Katsina State; Kabiru Lawal, 36 years old, also from Katsina State; and Aminu, 19 years old, from Katsina State.
Further investigation revealed that Adekunle Saheed confessed during police interrogation that he was instructed by his boss, one Engr. Ali, through a phone call, to hire a truck and transport the railway infrastructure from Katama village, Kaduna, to Kwara State.
CP Danmamman reiterated the commitment of the police force to ensure the safety and security of the state, promising to leave no stone unturned in the battle against criminal activities, including railway vandalism.
