BENNI McCarthy has been fined almost £200,000 by West Ham for failing to meet fitness targets in his bizarre battle of the bulge.
But having finally slimmed down as Avram Grant finalised his 25-man Premier League squad for the second round of the season, he was left out because his slimming regime made him too slow.
Hammers boss, Grant believes the weight loss has slowed the former Blackburn striker down.
"He reached the targets but I think that affected his movement. He's a very good player and one of the best finishers in training that I have ever seen, and I have had some good players.
“But now we need players with movement and the advantage of being quick, and we have others,”Grant said.
McCarthy was challenged at the beginning of the season to lose 2.2lb in weight for five or six weeks or face a fine of one week's wages each time he failed.
The South African international earns £38,000 a week and appears to have been fined five times in his long-term weight battle.

Dis world self, if u fat na problem, if u're thin dem go say u carry aids.
which kind talk be that? how a footballer wey dem dey pay 38000 pounds weekly (money wey many people for uk no dey earn in a year) go fat when others dey hustle for gym and training to play good football and justify their income. well if you no know 38000 pounds is equivalent to 9.1 million naira.you go fat if you dey earn that kind money weekly?

West ham....always harsh on their players. but the guy too like food
west ham are not really being harsh, he was given notice before hand and still yet no improvement besides things are not looking too good for west ham as they are loosing matches and still hovering around the relegation zone even avram grant is not safe. so its wrong when other players are working hard to uplift their dying team McCarthy is busy eating and still yet collecting wages with no work. its unfair
