In a significant operation against oil vandalism, the Anti-Vandalism Squad of the Anambra State Command, led by ACC Chinenye Chinweze, in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy, apprehended three suspects transporting suspected adulterated Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) along Atani Road in Odekpe Community, Ogbaru Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State.

According to Mr. Maku, spokesperson for the NSCDC, the suspects identified as Okechukwu Okeke, Emeka Chukwuma, and Ifunanya Ike, were arrested on Thursday, March 28. They were found in possession of 65 kegs, each containing 25 liters of the suspected adulterated AGO, totaling approximately 1,625 liters. The illegal product was being transported in two shuttle buses: one white-colored with registration plate Anambra AWK 429 XY and the other ash-colored with plate number Anambra GDD277XB.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the illegally refined products were loaded at Ogbakuma Community and were en route to Okoti Community, both within Ogbaru LGA.

The commandant highlighted the successful collaboration between the NSCDC and the Nigerian Navy, emphasizing the need for such synergy in combating illegal oil bunkering, which poses a significant threat to the nation’s economy.

"I commend the Nigerian Navy for their unwavering support in combating criminal activities in the state. This partnership exemplifies the concerted effort required to tackle perpetrators of such heinous crimes,"
stated the commandant.

He reiterated the NSCDC's commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure and prosecuting those involved in crude oil theft and illegal bunkering activities. "We are resolutely focused on eradicating illegal petroleum product racketeering and related criminal activities in Anambra State," he affirmed.

The successful operation underscores the importance of inter-agency cooperation in combating oil theft and protecting national resources, signaling a strong deterrent to those engaged in such illicit activities.
