Gombe State Police Command announced on Saturday the rescue of 17-year-old Rabi Abdul, who was kidnapped and taken to Zange forest by a group of herdsmen.

ASP Buhari Abdullahi, the Police Public Relations Officer, briefed journalists about the operation. He revealed that Malam Abba, a resident of Ardo Wumnu village in Dukku Local Government Area, is one of the suspects involved in the kidnapping.

Abdullahi detailed the events, explaining that Rabi Abdul was taken hostage after her husband managed to escape an attack by the herders. “On May 19, 2024, a team of policemen and hunters, while on a joint operation in Zange village, Dukku LGA, tracked the footsteps of herders suspected to be cattle rustlers, leading them to a house in Zange forest,” he said.

Upon reaching the house, the team encountered Malam Abba, who admitted to hiding Rabi Abdul in his home. Abdul, a resident of Akkoyel village, Akko LGA, and the wife of Alhaji Abdu Bello, had been kidnapped following her husband’s escape from an earlier attack. The police team successfully rescued Rabi and took her to General Hospital Dukku, where she received medical treatment and was subsequently discharged.

Abdullahi confirmed that Malam Abba confessed to the crime and will soon face charges in court. Additionally, four suspects remain at large, and the police are intensifying efforts to apprehend them.

The police spokesperson issued a stern warning to those involved in such criminal activities, emphasizing that justice will be pursued relentlessly to ensure perpetrators are held accountable.
