Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Peterside Idah has weighed in on the recent controversy involving Victor Osimhen, urging the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to intervene and demand an apology from the striker to former coach Finidi George.
Osimhen, reacting to social media reports that purportedly questioned his commitment to the national team, lashed out at Finidi George and even directed curses towards fans. This came after the striker opted out of the Super Eagles' 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic, matches that yielded only one point for Nigeria and put their World Cup hopes in jeopardy.
In a brief video shared on X, Idah expressed disappointment over Osimhen's remarks, emphasizing the need for accountability and respect within the national team.
"He (Osimhen) needs to come outside and apologize for the things he said to Finidi," Idah asserted. "Finidi George is a legend. You don’t just widen your mouth and say things that are unpalatable. If you have issues with the man, pick up your phone and call him. That’s what responsible people do."
Idah criticized what he perceived as irresponsibility on Osimhen's part, highlighting that such behavior is unbecoming of a player of his stature. He called on the NFF to step in and facilitate an apology from Osimhen to Finidi George, stressing the importance of maintaining respect and professionalism within the football community.
"Osimhen has just shown a bit of irresponsibility, and that’s unexpected," Idah remarked. "I think the NFF should call Osimhen and ask him to apologize. He has to apologize for saying things."
