Yetunde Alao, a 36-year-old man, has been brought before the Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing $5,006 Canadian dollars (approximately N5.2 million) and other items.
Alao, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing charges of conspiracy and stealing, as presented by Police Prosecutor Benedict Aigbokhan. The prosecutor informed the court that the defendant, along with accomplices who are still at large, committed the alleged offences on June 2 at Akeem Balogun Street, Idimu, Lagos.
According to Aigbokhan, Alao is accused of stealing $5,006 Canadian dollars, five jackets valued at N500,000, and an international passport belonging to Mr. Anthony Alao. The prosecutor cited that these actions contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
During the court proceedings, Yetunde Alao pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
In her ruling, Magistrate Miss K. A. Ariyo granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties who must each provide the same amount. The sureties are also required to show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government as part of the bail conditions.
The case has been adjourned until July 2 for mention, allowing time for further legal proceedings to unfold.
