Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended a syndicate posing as State House staff in Abuja for alleged criminal conspiracy, false representation, and employment scam.
Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson, made the announcement in a statement on Saturday. He disclosed that the suspects were arrested separately following investigations into petitions from victims who were promised jobs in various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
The suspects allegedly promised their victims high-ranking positions, including "Director-General" roles at the Ministry of Communication, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), among other ministries.
The suspects include Augustine Umogboi, who claimed to be a former State House staff member, and Eleojo Idakwo, who posed as a staff member in the Ministry of Information's Registry Unit. Others arrested were Kingsley Onuh, who claimed to have just completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Omata Sunday, and Eljayon Nigeria Limited, a company used to channel funds from victims.
"These individuals used multiple bank accounts to receive a total of N22,350,000 from their victims," Oyewale stated. "Umogboi was arrested on June 16, Idakwo on April 30, and Onuh on April 3."
Victims detailed their ordeals in a series of petitions to the EFCC. The suspects have provided useful information to the commission and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
