Ayemobola Mojadesola, a female passenger, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a female airport official after being asked to return a borrowed pen.
The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Michael Achimugu, disclosed the incident to newsmen.
"Ms. Ayemobola Mojadesola, born in 1995, and her mother attacked an airport official, causing facial injuries and damaging two laptops after being asked to return a borrowed pen," Achimugu said. "She was arrested by airport security (Avsec) and was required to purchase replacement laptops and provide fifty thousand naira for the medical treatment of the injured staff."
Achimugu emphasized that unruly behavior and destruction of airport property would not be tolerated. "Aviation equipment and staffers are there to facilitate safe and secure travel. They are not punching bags."
He urged passengers to seek assistance from NCAA Consumer Protection Officers at the terminals if they are dissatisfied with the service provided by operators. "The NCAA Consumer Protection officers are there to help you. Aggrieved passengers should always refer to them," Achimugu added.
Ms. Ayemobola was offloaded from her flight due to her unruly behavior and was taken by Avsec to Tango City before being handed over to the Nigeria Police Force.
