A Federal High Court in Ibadan has ordered the remand of two individuals, Toheeb Adediran and Emmanuel Ayorinde, at the Agodi Correctional Centre for separate drug-related offences.
Toheeb Adediran, a middle-aged man, was remanded after confessing to trading in 4.418 kg of Cannabis. He appeared before Justice Ekerete Akpan on a one-count charge of dealing in illicit substances. The court adjourned the case until July 2 for further proceedings and judgment.
Ms Ann Balogun, counsel to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Oyo State Command, informed the court that Adediran was apprehended in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, following a tip-off. The offence is said to contravene section 11 (C) of the NDLEA Act Cap n30 Law of the Federation 2004.
In a separate case, Emmanuel Ayorinde was also remanded in the Agodi Correctional Centre after pleading not guilty to charges of unlawful possession and mixing of harmful substances. Justice Akpan adjourned his case until July 15 for a hearing on his bail application and commencement of trial.
According to the prosecutor, Ayorinde was arrested in the New Garage area of Ibadan for allegedly mixing 5.25 litres of liquid substances with coding, which he sold to customers. NDLEA operatives reportedly seized 17.4 kg of Cannabis Sativa concealed in a sack during his arrest.
These court orders underscore ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat drug-related crimes in Oyo State, emphasizing the severity with which such offences are treated under Nigerian law.
