
Ige Babatunde, a monarch in Osun State, was apprehended by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on July 5 for allegedly possessing cannabis plants. According to a statement released on Sunday by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, Babatunde was found with fresh cannabis plants weighing 5kg.
“In Osun State, the head of Akarabata community in Ile-Ife, Ba’ale Ige Babatunde, 50, was on Friday, July 5 arrested with fresh cannabis plants that weighed 5kg,” Babafemi disclosed.
In a separate incident, a youth corps member, Yusuf Abdulrahman, was also detained by NDLEA operatives. The 25-year-old was found with a quantity of 'loud,' a potent form of cannabis, weighing 1.250kg. The arrest took place at the Corpers Lodge in the Sumaila area of Kano State on July 3.
Babafemi added, “In Kano, operatives on Wednesday, July 3rd, arrested a youth corps member, Yusuf Abdulrahman, 25, at Corpers Lodge, Sumaila area of the city, with 1.250kg of Loud.”
These arrests highlight ongoing efforts by the NDLEA to combat drug-related activities across Nigeria.
