Two armed robbery suspects, identified as Ntosi Godfrey, 37, and Nnamdi Raymond, have been apprehended by the Imo State Police Command, following a dramatic confrontation along the Owerri-Aba road.

The suspects were reportedly operating between the Umuahia and Owerri areas when they were intercepted. During a stop-and-search operation led by the Tactical Unit of the command, the suspects were discovered in a Green Toyota Golf, which they allegedly stole from a victim in Umuahia.

According to ASP Henry Okoye, the command's spokesperson, the suspects fired upon the police upon being approached. The ensuing gunfight resulted in one suspect being wounded, while the other was taken into custody. The injured suspect was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Police recovered significant evidence from the scene, including a pump-action gun, a locally fabricated firearm, and 10 rounds of live ammunition. During interrogation, the suspects admitted to being part of a notorious armed robbery gang operating in Umuahia, and mentioned an accomplice who remains at large.

In a separate operation, Chibueze Kalu, 25, was arrested by the Nekede Divisional Headquarters in collaboration with local vigilantes on July 18, 2024. Kalu is suspected to be affiliated with the Black Axe Confraternity, a known cult group. Police recovered a locally made pistol from him. Kalu has confessed to his involvement with the cult.

Both arrests mark significant successes for the Imo State Police Command in their ongoing efforts to tackle crime in the region.
