The Nigerian Army, in coordination with other security agencies, has successfully apprehended Mallam Hashimu Ahmad, a prominent gun runner, in Saminaka, Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Ahmad, who had been a key target for supplying arms to terrorists, was captured while transporting a significant arsenal.
In a statement released on Saturday through its Department of Army Public Relations, the Army detailed the recovery of a substantial cache of weapons, including a General Purpose Machine Gun, a Rocket Propelled Grenade Launcher, one RPG bomb, 1,069 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, and one belt of 7.62mm NATO ammunition. The vehicle used to transport these items was also seized.
In Delta State, the Army intercepted a tanker truck loaded with 15,000 liters of suspected illegally refined AGO (Automotive Gas Oil) in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area. Two individuals found with the illegal product have been taken into custody for further investigation and will be handed over to the relevant prosecuting authorities.
Additionally, troops in Sokoto State successfully rescued hostages who had been kidnapped and taken into the forest near Matalawa village, Isa Local Government Area. The troops responded to distress calls, engaged the kidnappers in a gunfight, and freed the hostages, who have since been reunited with their families.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its dedication to combating crime and maintaining national security. The Army urged the public to assist by providing information that could aid in the fight against terrorism and other criminal activities.
